A financial fraud of nearly ₹5 crore has surfaced in Mogra, where Unique Multi Trade Private Limited is accused of collecting money from investors with the promise of investing it in the stock market and offering profitable returns. The company allegedly took funds from people across Mogra and several other districts. Initial payments were made to some depositors, but the disbursements later stopped, leading victims to file complaints at Mogra police station.
The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the state government has initiated an investigation into the alleged scam. Officials are examining company records, investor details, and financial transactions to trace the movement of funds. According to early findings, the total amount collected fraudulently is estimated to be around ₹5 crore. Authorities confirmed that the company continued to accept money even after it had stopped making returns to previous investors.
Director Somnath Mukherjee of Unique Multi Trade Private Limited has been arrested and produced before the Chinsurah court. While being taken to court, he told reporters, “Crores of rupees have been withdrawn. I am not alone — there are many others.” He also said, “It seems I have been trapped in a conspiracy.” Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals potentially linked to the operation.
